BROOKLYN (AP) — Authorities say a Brooklyn prosecutor has been charged with taking a swing at a police officer following a traffic stop.

Brooklyn Assistant District Attorney Yaser Othman was charged with resisting arrest, reckless driving, attempted assault and marijuana possession. He was freed without bail following his arraignment Sunday.

Othman told the New York Post he was innocent and would be cleared.

Authorities say the 41-year-old prosecutor was suspended without pay following his arrest on Saturday. He's been with the Brooklyn DA's office since 2010.

Police say Othman was pulled over in Queens after they observed him driving erratically. Queens prosecutors said Othman allegedly refused to get out of the car. They say he swung — but missed — at the police officer while trying to avoid being handcuffed.
