Third-round real estate groups win awards to make buildings climate-friendly

STATEWIDE — ELEVEN LEADING REAL ESTATE GROUPS have been selected in the third round of the $50 million Empire Building Challenge to advance climate-friendly multifamily buildings in New York State, Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Wednesday, May 22. One of the selected real estate firms, Chartered Properties — with team members LaBella Associates, Optimized Thermal Systems, and Sunamp will be creating seven buildings — 95 units —that are committed to carbon neutrality. Two of these have adjacent addresses: 1336-40 Bergen St. and 1342 Bergen St., in Crown Heights; 226 Schaefer St. in Bushwick; 586 Ave., around the corner from the Schaefer St. site; 55 Arlington St. in Cypress Hills; 78 Herkimer St. in Bedford-Stuyvesant; and 462 Nostrand Avenue, also in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Moreover, RiseBoro Community Partnership, with a team including Steven Winter Associates will work 98 affordable residential units at 43 & 63 Central Avenue in Bushwick.

The newly awarded partners collectively own more than 1.7 million square feet of real estate and 133,500 residential units throughout New York State, including more than 18,700 affordable housing units.
