REGIONWIDE — FLIGHTS FROM FOUR NYC-AREA AIRPORTS were grounded on Thursday morning as severe thunderstorms pushed heavy winds and rains through the five boroughs and Long Island, the FAA and several news sources reported. The Federal Aviation Administration grounded outbound flights from LaGuardia Airport in northern Queens, Newark International and Teterboro airports in New Jersey and Westchester Airport. Moreover, arriving flights of John F. Kennedy International Airport, near the boundary of southern Queens and Nassau County, were under a “traffic management program,” whereby passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines on whether their flights were impacted.

Although the FAA had lifted the ground stops by noon, the impacted airports have reported delays of up to nearly two hours, according to WPIX11-TV’s Weather Center.
