BENSONHURST — SENIOR CITIZENS AROUND BENSONHURST received bouquets of flowers directly from City Councilmember Susan Zhuang on the Friday before Mother’s Day, observed this year on Sunday, May 12. Councilmember Zhuang personally purchased a thousand flowers to distribute to seniors and children (to present to their mothers) in the community. Council Member Zhuang, who began this tradition years ago while in another leadership role, visited multiple senior centers on Friday to personally hand out flowers. She hosted groups of students at the office to give out flowers.

“Mother’s Day has always been and will always be my favorite holiday. On Sunday we get to recognize the incredible mothers and maternal figures in our life who provide us with wisdom, compassion, care, and love,” said Zhuang, a mother of two.
