NATIONWIDE — FIVE CLASSIC VIDEO GAMES — Asteroids, Myst, Resident Evil, SimCity and Ultima — were inducted into the tenth class of honorees in The World Video Game Hall of Fame on Thursday, NY1 reported. The winning games were chosen from a list of a dozen nominees recognized for their impacts on the video game industry and popular culture. Atari’s Asteroids made its way onto computers after first appearing in coin-operated arcades in 1979. Myst was first released for Apple Macintosh in 1993. Japanese horror game/franchise Resident Evil debuted in 1996. The city-building game SimCity was first released by Maxis in 1989. Ultima, a series of fantasy role-playing games, first appeared in 1981. The Hall of Fame is located in the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York.

Missing the cut were finalists Elite, Guitar Hero, Metroid, Neopets, Tokimeki Memorial, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater and You Don’t Know Jack.
