Invoking the classic I-read-Playboy-for-the-articles defense, Daily News columnist Denis Hamill reproached Park Slope and Prospect Heights residents who are trying to stop Hooters from opening a location near Barclays Center, calling them "spoilsports" and claiming that the restaurant's main draws are the wings and the sports on TV. He says many of the owl-themed restaurant chain's waitresses are hard-working, working-class women who are trying to advance themselves, and are making more than they would at McDonald’s. He also argues that Hooters girls dress no racier than "a Nets player dressed in shorts, T-shirt and sneakers."
