CLINTON HILL — THE BROOKLYN ACADEMY of Music is set to present its annual Contemporary Arab Cinema film series next week, spotlighting 12 films from across the Middle East and North Africa to illuminate the diversity and complexity of the modern Arab world. The series includes both documentaries and fiction. Highlights include a special screening of “Hiding Saddam Hussein” the story of the farmer who hid the deposed dictator in his garden for eight months, as well as Q&A sessions with the directors of “The Burdened” an award-winning Yemeni drama about a family struggling with an unwanted pregnancy, “Voy! Voy! Voy!,” an Egyptian comedy about a con artist pretending to be a blind soccer star, and “Hollywoodgate,” a documentary about the rise of the Taliban in Afghanistan after the American withdrawal.

The Contemporary Arab Cinema series runs daily from July 11 to July 18. Film times and tickets can be found online on BAM’s website.
