MTA offers public webinars explaining congestion pricing plan
CITYWIDE — EIGHT PUBLIC WEBINARS that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority is offering on the new Congestion Pricing plan aim to help New Yorkers learn about the program in time for when it takes effect on Jan. 5, according to the MTA and Brooklyn Community Board 2. The webinars, most of which provide a General Overview on the tolling plan, will explain the need for the program, the geography and toll rates on the Congestion Relief Zone (south of 60th St., excluding the FDR Drive and West Side Highway) and eligibility for exemptions and discounts. Each session will feature a brief presentation, followed by Q&A. One of the webinars (Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 3 p.m.) is dedicated to the Individual Disability Exemption Plan and another (Thursday, Dec., 5 at 2 p.m.) is dedicated to the Low Income Discount Plan. Each webinar has its own registration link. Participants are invited to submit questions in advance of the webinars through the above link.
The U.S. Federal Highway Administration on Friday approved the revised congestion pricing plan, which takes effect on Sunday, Jan. 5. Aside from governmental agency approvals, the tolling plan still faces court hurdles in nine lawsuits that unions, state governments and advocacy groups have filed, who argue that the tolls are unfair, financially burdensome and lack proper environmental review.
