CAPITOL HILL — SUNDAY’S KNIFEPOINT RAPE OF A WOMAN ON THE CONEY ISLAND BOARDWALK received swift condemnation from Congressmember Nicole Malliotakis (R-11). Referring to an incident in June, Malliotakis stated, “Two months ago, a 13-year-old girl was raped and robbed at knifepoint in Kissena Park, Queens, by an illegal immigrant from Ecuador. Now we learn another woman suffered the same brutal attack last night at the hands of two illegal migrants from Nicaragua and Mexico, one of whom previously lived at the La Quinta hotel migrant shelter on Third Avenue on taxpayers’ dime.” Blaming Democratic officials at the national and municipal level, Malliotakis said, “The Biden-Harris Administration’s open-border policies are allowing these violent, unvetted individuals in, and our Mayor and Governor are using our tax dollars to lure them to New York City with ‘free’ food, housing, healthcare and education. It’s so misguided and wrong.”

According to various news reports, one of the men was involved in a 2023 assault at a Gowanus-area LaQuinta Inn-turned-shelter, but it wasn’t clear whether he was staying there. The 46-year-old victim was from outside NYC and reportedly living underneath the boardwalk. It is not clear whether she was a refugee or an unhoused New Yorker.

Malliotakis called on city officials to end New York’s sanctuary city law and “stop misinterpreting ‘Right to Shelter’ meant for homeless New Yorkers.”
