CITYWIDE — NYC PUBLIC POOLS opened for the summer season on Thursday, and the Parks Department is hoping to hang on to enough lifeguards to make it work. The city has upped lifeguards’ wages to $22 an hour in an attempt to beef up the numbers, and returning seasonal lifeguards and chief lifeguards will receive a $1,000 bonus if they work through peak season. Brooklyn is home to 14 of the city’s 50 free outdoor public pools — the Parks Department lists their locations and pool rules online.

Pools are open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
