RED HOOK A NEW PERMANENT sculpture park broke ground in Red Hook earlier this summer, associated with Manhattan’s Entrance art gallery, reports Observer. the 10,000-square-foot outdoor space is still under construction but partially opened in May, hosting a summer-long exhibit of marble sculptures by artist Ian Swordy on part of the garden’s planned footprint. Gallery founder Louis Shannon, a Red Hook resident, says the park will eventually serve as a gathering spot, food garden and venue for performances, events, workshops and community dinners. Shannon aspires to create a space in collaboration with Red Hook creatives and businesses that’s different from anything else in NYC’s art scene, telling Observer, “Our gallery’s ceiling is now the everchanging Red Hook blue sky and clouds rather than spotlights and fluorescents. I grew up inspired by large-scale outdoor installations and expansive sculpture gardens. I wanted to share that same feeling and inspiration here.”

The Entrance/Red Hook garden is located at 113 Wolcott Street and is open from noon to 7 p.m. on weekends; in future years, the garden is set to be open from spring through fall.
