BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — Despite signs saying that the Fourth of July fireworks would not be visible from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade or Brooklyn Bridge Park this year, hundreds still gathered at these venues with their picnics, music and flags to celebrate the nation’s holiday.

In anticipation of the annual event, police blocked Cadman Plaza West and Old Fulton Street with NYPD vehicles. Clusters of police stationed along the Promenade and in the park expressed puzzlement and resignation about those gathered.

“We tried to tell them where to see the fireworks,” one police officer told the Brooklyn Eagle.

“They didn’t listen,” he added, shrugging.
