Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 302nd day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1908, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Autographed $2 Bill Part of Burglars’ Loot.”

The article focused on the robbery of a saloon in East New York.

“They appropriated all the available cash in the cash register and helped themselves to liquor and cigars,” the Eagle reported. “It was while they were standing in front of the bar drinking to each other’s health that they discovered the two-dollar bill looking down upon them. It was ruthlessly torn from the frame and carried away.”

TODAY IS ST. JUDE’S DAY. Jude, the saint of hopeless causes, was martyred along with St. Simon in Persia, and their feast is celebrated jointly. St. Jude was supposedly the brother of Jesus and, like his brother, a carpenter by trade. He is most popular with those who attempt the impossible and with students, who often ask for his help on exams.
