Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 280th day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1912, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Burglar Was a Tomcat.”

The article focused on a burglary scare in Fort Hamilton.

“… Detectives Henne and Dwyer, with half a dozen bluecoats, noiselessly crept up the stoop and entered the house,” the Eagle reported. “With drawn clubs and revolvers the braves searched room after room with no results. As Henne was turning the light low in the dining room, something sparkling from under a lounge attracted him and he demanded, ‘Come out or I’ll shoot.’ The response was ‘M-e-o-w-a-r-o-w.’”
