ON THIS DAY in 1913, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “J.K. M’Guire Due Here on Thanksgiving Day; Will be Met on Steamer.”

The article focused on a former mayor of Syracuse who was indicted for a misdemeanor at the time.  

“James E. McGuire [is] indicated for a misdemeanor in having requested, as alleged, a $5,000 contribution to the Democratic campaign fund,” the Eagle reported.  McGuire was due in Brooklyn on Thanksgiving Day, according to the district attorney at the time.

JOHN F. KENNEDY JR. was born on this day in 1960.  Son of former President John F. Kennedy, he was a lawyer and editor of George magazine.  He died in a plane crash in 1999.

ANDREW CARNEGIE was born on this day in 1835.  Carnegie was an American financier, philanthropist and benefactor of more than 2,500 libraries.  Among his endowments are the Carnegie Hall, the Carnegie Foundation and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.  He died in 1919.
