As of Saturday, October 4, 40 out of 60 of the borough’s libraries will have six or seven-day service, as well as extended hours on evenings and Saturdays.

The new hours are thanks to $2.8 million in new funding from the mayor and City Council, as well as overall improvements in BPL efficiency; the funds will also enable “the most extensive staff hiring and training since 2008,” which will include new librarians, public safety officers and custodians.

Affected branches include Bay Ridge, Brighton Beach, Brooklyn Heights, Canarsie, Carroll Gardens, Coney Island, Flatbush, Flatlands, Highlawn, Homecrest, Jamaica Bay, Macon, Mapleton, Marcy, Midwood, New Utrecht, Park Slope, Red Hook, Sheepshead Bay and Sunset Park.
