Animal rights protest planned for Greenpoint live poultry market
As Greenpoint gentrifies, Lee’s causes a flap
Local and national animal rights activists will gather at Lee’s Live Poultry Market in Greenpoint on Saturday, September 28, to protest the slaughter of chickens there.
The protest at 122 Greenpoint Avenue is part of World Day for Farmed Animals, with demonstrations taking place at slaughterhouses around the world.
“This protest memorializes and speaks out for animals who are brutally killed at Lee’s,” said area resident Shafali Patel, who is organizing the event. “On World Day for Farmed Animals, we intend to tell the public that animals raised for food face a gruesome slaughter and deserve our respect.”
