A man is dead and a woman is injured after a hit-and-run accident in Brooklyn.

The accident happened at about 5 a.m. Thursday in Williamsburg. Police say a 35-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were crossing a street when they were hit by a Chevrolet Malibu traveling eastbound.

The force of being hit propelled the man and woman into the westbound traffic lane. The male victim was struck again and came to rest under a Kia.

Police say the driver of the Kia remained at the scene but the driver of the Malibu fled and later abandoned the car.

The injured man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not immediately identify him. The woman was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in serious condition.
