On Jan. 19, 1943, during World War II, the following article appeared in the Brooklyn Eagle:
 

“Lord Halifax, British Ambassador to the United States, was a guest today at a luncheon and reception at the Jewish Hospital, 555 Prospect Place, and afterwards was conducted on a tour of inspection of the hospital.
 

“The affair had been planned for Lord and Lady Halifax. Both accepted the invitation but only Lord Halifax arrived. His wife sent a note explaining illness of a son prevented her appearance.
 

“The Ambassador was accompanied by the British Consul General and his wife, Sir Godfrey and Lady Haggard.
 

“Louis M. Rabinowitz, vice president of the hospital, later announced that Lord Halifax was donating a room in the pediatric ward as a memorial to his son, Francis Hugh Peter Courtenay Ward, killed in action in the present war.”
