BOROUGH PARK — MAIMONIDES HEALTH HAS BECOME THE FIRST HOSPITAL IN BROOKLYN TO ADOPT THE ORBEYE™ EXOSCOPE system for use during surgical procedures.

The ORBEYE enables the surgeon and surgical team to view high-resolution 3D anatomical digital images in detail that was previously unavailable without the use of microscope eyepieces. Surgical teams can simultaneously view the structure of tissue such as the brain and the spinal cord, blood vessels, and other anatomical features at up to 26x magnification on a 55-inch 4K-3D monitor.

The ergonomic display is intended to reduce surgeon fatigue and improve patient safety, and is particularly helpful in pediatric and spinal surgeries.

Maimonides will immediately begin incorporating the technology in all neurological (brain and spine), pediatric and other specialty surgeries.

“Using the ORBEYE has changed the way I operate,” said Roee Ber, MD, a neurosurgeon at Maimonides. “It decreases my mental and physical burden while performing microsurgery on delicate structures such as the brain and spinal cord […] More importantly, it allows the entire room to align, thus improving teamwork, efficiency, and safety.”
