Guacamole sold in Midwest recalled for possible listeria contamination
NATIONWIDE — Several varieties of Lunds & Byerlys fresh guacamole sold in the Midwest and possibly brought to New York by travelers over the past week have been recalled because of a potential listeria contamination, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration announced on Friday, Aug. 2. All Lunds & Byerlys fresh guacamole products with a use-by date of Aug. 2 have been recalled from stores in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul in Minnesota. The product, packaged in clear, plastic containers, was also available in select locations ‘Taco Mas’ food bars from July 27-31. New Yorkers who may have traveled or dined there are urged to contact if they experience any illnesses. The recall affects the brand’s Fresh Guacamole, Fresh Smokin’ Guacamole, Fresh Spicy Guacamole, Pico de Gallo/Guacamole Tray and Deli Guacamole.
The recall was the result of a routine sampling program by the company, which revealed that the finished products could potentially contain the bacteria. The company has ceased the production and distribution of the products as they continue their investigation.
