Brooklyn Music School survives funding crisis after emergency campaign
DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — AFTER AN EMERGENCY FUNDRAISER, Brooklyn Music School, a century-old Downtown Brooklyn institution, announced on Saturday that generous support from 500 community members, plus a $250,000 grant from New York Presbyterian and a gift from nonprofit Plus1 will allow the school to continue its programming for thousands of city kids. The school held a benefit concert last Wednesday to raise $100,000 after cuts to city and state budgets and rising costs led it to cancel the remainder of its June programming and furlough several key staff members.
“The love we have received from the community during this incredibly difficult time has been palpable and overwhelming,” BMS Executive Director Brian Adamczyk said in an email. The campaign remains open for additional donations at brooklynmusicschool.org.
