“Often parodied on TikTok for their puzzling buying policies compared to the fast fashion among the racks, shopping here is a bit of a your-results-may-vary exercise, but it’s definitely good to pay it a visit, especially for recognizable brands and reasonable prices.” – Erin Conlon, Greenpointers

Coney Island Ritual Cabaret

Coney Island USA, 1208 Surf Avenue, Coney Island
March 15 to 17. Tickets for $25

This cabaret play from Coney Island USA and the International Culture Lab is an immersive theater experience inspired by Jean Genet’s classic play, “The Balcony” that focuses on themes of power, patriarchy, identity, and illusion. The play blurs the line between reality and fantasy, inviting audience members to peer into the world of “Madame Irma’s working girls,” in a fictional brothel.

Performers have also created objects and services which will be offered one-on-one to individual theatergoers via a menu for an additional fee.

“Led by ICL Artistic Directors Nick Fracaro and Gabriele Schafer, an international ensemble of 20+ dancers, performance artists, actors, musicians, and visual artists has crafted an original evening of theater and art.” – Stephi Wild, Broadway World

“Ritual Cabaret Art Brothel” takes Genet’s profound observations and translates them for a modern audience navigating a landscape marked by misinformation, alternative realities, challenges to stereotypes of gender and power, meticulously crafted social media and dating app profiles.” – I Love NY

The Hunt @ St. Ann’s Warehouse
Theatre
St. Ann’s Warehouse, Brooklyn Bridge Park, 45 Water Street, Dumbo
Performances now through March 24

Quickly gaining buzz throughout the city, this adaptation of Thomas Vinterberg’s 2013 film follows the story of a quiet teacher, played by Tobias Menzies, who is wrongfully accused of molesting several of his students.

This British production directed by Rupert Goold and adapted by David Farr has the stylings of a horror film, including ritualistic dancing, sacrifices and jump scares. Menzies’ acclaimed performance is considered to be the main draw.

“Let it be known that the British import “The Hunt” — about a man ostracized, and worse, for a crime he didn’t commit — does not really err toward subtlety.” — Elisabeth Vincenteli, The New York Times

“It’s worth seeing for Menzies alone – he gives a stunning performance. I was riveted!” – E. Evans, NYT Comments

“Menzies is a great actor. I suppose if anyone is equipped to take over this role from the great Mads Mikkelsen (who won Best Actor at Cannes for his performance in the film) then Menzies fits the bill.” – Sarah F., NYT Comments

The room is an up-scale lounge space, with couches instead of front-row seats, the space has the new-age aesthetics and positive vibes that are reshaping the city’s comedy scene in Brooklyn’s image. This week’s set is headlined by Comedy Central’s Yedoye Travis.

“After spending much of my adult life around stand ups, I finally realized there’s a real negativity that hangs around the scene. I decided to make this show to have a space for comedy where we’re not complaining about everything being horrible.” – Sam Poznak, Founder of GPC.
