The march was the second protest action in 24 hours; on Monday evening, pro-Palestinian demonstrators also marched through the streets of Pasadena, walking throughout the city, including stops at Caltech and Pasadena City College.
These marches were reported to be more peaceful than at other schools, including at UCLA, just 12 miles away, and in New York City, where police arrested more than 100 (according to the local NBC News affiliate) after protesters stormed and allegedly vandalized a campus building at Columbia University.

According to the Sea Lion Center of San Francisco, these unique animals arrived here in 1989 and multiplied in particular after the Loma Prieta earthquake, when people moved their boats from the pier.
Many people confuse sea lions with seals. Sea lions are brown, have flaps for ears and “walk” on their flappers. They are also more sociable and spend more time on land than seals.
ISTANBUL — It’s union flags versus government rubber bullets: Union members clash with Turkish anti-riot police officers as they march during Labor Day celebrations in Istanbul, Turkey, Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Police in Istanbul used tear gas and fired rubber bullets to disperse thousands of people attempting to break through a barricade and reach the city’s main square, Taksim, in defiance of a government ban on celebrating May 1 Labor Day at the landmark location. May Day, which falls on May 1, is observed internationally to celebrate workers’ rights and to provide an opportunity to air economic grievances or political demands. In Turkey, it is a public holiday but, by law, cannot be celebrated at Taksim.
The date of May 1 was chosen because it was the traditional feast day of St. Joseph the Worker. Even traditionally non-Catholic regions observe this labor-focused holiday.
