Throughout his ongoing, nearly half-century tenure at Maimonides, Maimonides has become an increasingly diverse center of care, serving patients of many backgrounds. Douglas ushered the hospital through these demographic changes, fostering inclusivity and understanding not only within the hospital, but among the community at large through outreach to many cultural, ethnic, and faith-based groups and communities.

He has built the Maimonides’ Community Relations and Volunteer departments from the ground up, along with implementing in-hospital Muslim, Christian, and interfaith religious facilities at Maimonides. His work has ensured that patients of all backgrounds receive culturally sensitive care of the highest quality. He has also helped create and sustain an inclusive, uplifting work environment for all at Maimonides, which is one of Brooklyn’s largest private employers.

Douglas serves as a member of NYC Community Board 12, a board member of COJO of Flatbush and President Emeritus of board of Congregation Etz Chaim of Flatbush. He has received many community awards including the UFT District 21 Community Partnership Award; The Arab American Association of NY Community Building Bridges award; Pakistani Merchants Association “Man of the Year”; Flatbush Hatzolah Community Partner Award; the Best Community Service Appreciation Award from the Bangladeshi American Friendship Society and many others.
