Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced significant progress in reducing gun violence in the borough in 2023, with shooting incidents and victims dropping by about 25 percent, equating to 150 fewer shooting victims compared to the previous year.
Additionally, homicides decreased by almost 10 percent, and overall serious crimes saw a reduction of more than 5 percent.
These positive trends in public safety have been accelerating over the past three years, marking a reversal from the spike in gun violence during the peak of the COVID pandemic and returning to low crime levels not seen since before the health crisis.
