Brooklyn man who killed innocent woman with a stray bullet in Crown Heights gets 55 years

Supreme Court Justice Vincent Del Giudice sentenced Oliver Case, a 31-year-old man from East New York, Brooklyn, to 55 years to life in prison on Friday.

This sentence comes after Case’s conviction on Nov. 2 for the second-degree murder of Limose Thomas, a mother of four, and two counts of second-degree attempted murder.

The incident, which occurred on August 19, 2021, in Crown Heights, unfolded as Case fired 10 shots at two men he was pursuing. In the chaos, a stray bullet fatally struck Thomas, 54, in the back as she attempted to flee to safety.

One of the men being chased by Case was also injured, sustaining a gunshot wound to his arm.

Following an investigation, Case was arrested on Nov. 16, 2021.

“Limose Thomas, an innocent mother of four, had her life taken from her when this defendant coldly opened fire on a crowded street filled with pedestrians and bystanders, including young children, on a summer evening,” said District Attorney Eric Gonzalez after the sentencing. “My heart goes out to her family and friends, who hopefully find a measure of solace with today’s sentence.”
