Poly Prep’s Girls’ Softball team (2022) went undefeated in the league and once again won the championship amongst all New York State Private Schools (NYSAIS). This year the team outscored their opponents 200 to 20 and now has won 10 out of the last 14 NYSAIS championships.

The 2022-23 school year marks the 45th anniversary of Poly Prep’s shift to a coeducational institution. For a school widely recognized as a leader in boy’s athletics, in fact, it has been the girl’s teams that have scored the greatest number of championship seasons. The rapid development of girls’ sports at Poly coincides with a nationwide focus on female athletes thanks to Title IX which celebrates its 50thanniversary in 2022.

Poly Prep’s girls softball players have developed a formidable reputation over the years with their strong defense, outstanding hitters, and competitive pitching. Under the leadership of head coach Renae Beauchman, they are gearing up for the 2023 season, and looking forward to playing on a brand-new state-of-the-art facility, part of Poly’s recent renovation of its athletics fields at Poly’s Dyker Heights campus.

“Achieving this championship once again demonstrates our girls’ commitment to their practice, conditioning, drills, and strength training. These student-athletes work together as a team through extraordinary fast-paced practices in a year-round program that improves speed and coordination,” said Coach Beauchman.

Coach Renae Beauchman, is a former Division I softball player with more than a decade of experience coaching at the high school level. She began her softball career in her hometown of Los Angeles at the age of 11, playing with the Valley Breeze travel team in Southern California and at Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks. She went on to play at Long Island University – Brooklyn, where she earned the Distinguished Athlete and Distinguished Scholar awards and was selected to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics All American First team and National Fastpitch Coaches Association All Northeast Region team. As a coach and educator, Beauchman built the highly successful Manhattan Mayhem Softball Club for girls ages 6 to 18, a fastpitch softball travel league that competes in the Northeastern Region.

Beauchman is focused on promoting good sportsmanship and fair play for participants while maintaining high standards, a level playing field, and the opportunity for success for all her student-athletes. Through the robust sports programs at Poly Prep, students learn the true meaning of teamwork, how to respect authority and one another, and how to develop self-discipline. Like all successful sports programs, Poly’s teaches students to be goal-oriented and support one another, while also learning how to lose with grace and win with generosity, skills that benefit them for life.
