BRAZIL — Golden lion tamarins: A group of golden lion tamarins was seen in a tree during an observation tour at a private partner property of the Golden Lion Tamarin Ecological Park, in the Atlantic Forest region of Silva Jardim, on Thursday. The park was part of the Golden Lion Tamarin Association’s effort to conserve this endangered species.

HONG KONG — Flags: Chinese and Hong Kong flags were hung to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong’s handover to China, on Friday. Hong Kong was preparing to introduce new middle school textbooks that will deny the Chinese territory was ever a British colony.

ITALY — Drying river: People fished near a hydroelectric power plant at Isola Serafini, on the Po river in San Nazzaro, Wednesday. The drying up of the river jeopardizes drinking water in Italy’s densely populated and highly industrialized districts and threatens irrigation in the most intensively farmed part of the country.

SPAIN — Heatwave: A woman slept under an umbrella on a breakwater in front of the Mediterranean Sea in Barcelona on Thursday. Spain experienced the first heat wave of the summer with temperatures rising to 109ºF.

CROATIA — Supermoon: A supermoon rose behind a sculpture of Tomislav of Croatia, the first Croatian king, in downtown Zagreb, on Tuesday. The moon reached its full stage on Tuesday, during a phenomenon known as a supermoon because of its proximity to Earth.
