GAZA — Heritage preservation: Artist volunteers renovated a room in the long-abandoned 200-year-old al-Kamalaia school, in the old quarter of Gaza City, Sunday. Less than 200 of these old buildings are still partly or entirely standing, according to officials, and they are threatened by neglect, decay, and urban sprawl.

TENNESSEE — Explosion investigation: Investigators removed items from the basement of a home on Saturday in Nashville. An explosion that shook the largely deserted streets of downtown Nashville early Christmas morning shattered windows, damaged buildings, and wounded three people. Authorities said they believed the blast was intentional.

BOSNIA — Warm toes: Migrants warmed their feet by a fire at the Lipa camp in northwestern Bosnia, near the border of Croatia. Saturday, hundreds of migrants were stranded in the burnt-out, squalid camp as heavy snow fell in the country and temperatures dropped. The camp had a fire earlier this week after being harshly criticized by international officials and aid groups for being inadequate.

CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC — Elections: People lined up to cast their votes for the presidential and legislative elections outside the Lycee Boganda polling station in the capital city of Bangui, Sunday. President Faustin-Archange Touadera and his party said the vote will go ahead after government forces clashed with rebels in recent days and some opposition candidates pulled out of the race amid growing insecurity.
