New supermarket opens in Gravesend
A brand-new supermarket has opened up in the heart of Gravesend.
The Foodtown at 1949 Stillwell Ave. held its official ribbon-cutting on June 22. Present for the opening were the store owners and manager, local dignitaries including Assemblymember Bill Colton and State Sen. Marty Golden, and a rush of residents eager to get their groceries as the doors opened that morning.
Once the home of Scaturro Supermarket beginning in the ‘90s, the 20,000-square-foot lot became the site of Staples in 2007. To the delight of residents, given the current dearth of supermarkets in many portions of southwest Brooklyn, it has now returned to its grocery store roots.
