Several hundred refugees and migrants have gathered outside a police station in the country’s second-largest city, waiting to be formally arrested and gain temporary residence in the country.

FRANCE — Students Demonstrate: Students and rail workers march during a demonstration in Paris on Friday. Students at campuses around France are now protesting admissions reforms that they fear threaten access to public university for all high school graduates. Macron dismissed the student protesters as “professional agitators” and ridiculed some of their demands. Rail workers resumed a strike Friday that is set to disrupt travel on and off through June.

GERMANY — Baby Takes First Steps Outside: A polar bear baby named Nanook makes the first steps with her mother outside their cave at the compound at the zoo in Gelsenkirchen on Friday. The bear was born last December and stayed inside with its mother Lara Friday.

NORTH KOREA — Troupe Performs: North Koreans welcome Song Tao, center, head of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee’s International Department, as a Chinese art troupe led by Song arrive at Pyongyang Airport in on Friday. A group of Chinese performers arrived to take part in the April 31 Spring Friendship Art Festival. Beijing’s decision to send Song was seen as an attempt to continue its outreach to Pyongyang after last month’s summit between President Xi Jinping and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
