~WHO BOUGHT THE 10 PRICIEST BROOKLYN HOMES IN 2017?: Ka-ching! Wanna know who bought the most expensive homes in Brooklyn last year? We’ll tell you. On Monday, Brownstoner published its list of Brooklyn’s top 10 priciest home sales of 2017. The DUMBO Clock Tower penthouse led the way and two condos in Brooklyn Bridge Park’s controversial Pierhouse development were high on the list, the story notes. Other buildings on the list included a five-story rowhouse on Monroe Place, a landmarked house in Park Slope and a renovated Brooklyn Heights Historic District rowhouse. Real estate website PropertyShark.com provided Brownstoner the price info for its story. Then the Brooklyn Eagle turned to city Finance Department records to see who bought and sold these costly homes. This is what we found out(via Brooklyn Eagle)

~BROOKLYN SET TO LOSE PARKING SPOTS: A pilot program to convert street parking spots to spaces for car-sharing companies will begin taking away Brooklyn parking this spring. While parking is scarce throughout the borough, neighborhoods like Park SlopeCarroll Gardens and Cobble Hill, where parking is particularly difficult to find, will be the focus of the testNancy Tavera said she sometimes sleeps in the car for up to three hours waiting for a spot as it is. “You have to drive around for like an hour looking for a spot,”Sondra Fink told CBS. The program hopes to use companies like car2Go and ReachNow to decrease the amount of car owners on the road over time. Eventually, the program hopes to turn 600 spaces into car-sharing spots citywide. (via CBS New York)

~THE VERRAZANO-NARROWS BRIDGE GETS SWALLOWED UP BY FOG:Going. Going. Gone. Wanna see the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge do a disappearing act? In Bay Ridge yesterday, Brooklynites watched fog roll into New York Harbor and swallow up the mighty bridge. It was a freakishly warm 55 degrees. On the streets of Bay Ridge, blocks away from the harbor, the mournful sound of fog horns were heard. They came from ships passing in the mist beneath the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. The best spot for viewing the weather drama was Shore Road Promenade, which has a pedestrian and cycling path that runs beneath the bridge. If you believe poet Carl Sandburg, “The fog comes on little cat feet.” But the crazy white stuff that swallowed the bridge yesterday arrived like wild horses with thundering hooves. The 13,700-foot Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, built a half-century ago, is the longest suspension bridge in the United States. It’s quite a feat for the fog to make it vanish. (via Brooklyn Eagle)

~COURT STREET OFFICE SUPPLY CLOSING ITS BROOKLYN HEIGHTS STORE: Court Street Office Supply, at 44 Court St. across the street from Brooklyn Borough Hall, will be closing its doors on Feb. 20 after more than three decades selling pens, stationery and office furniture. But the company won’t be disappearing entirely. It will operate from a warehouse at 139 11th St., have an online presence and deliver to Downtown Brooklyn several times a day, owner Jacob Gutman told us. The store is closing not because of rent hikes but because of the shift to online purchasing. “The world is changing,” Gutman said. Longtime employees reminisced to us about former stalwarts like Yitz, who burned chametz (leavened bread products) the day before Passover on the sidewalk in front of the store, and Marvin, who handed out cookies. A Going Out of Business Sale starts today and ends on Tuesday, Feb. 20(via Brooklyn Eagle)

~ATLANTIC AVENUE’S ‘A COOK’S COMPANION’ TO CLOSE: Long-timeBrooklyn Heights staple ‘A Cook’s Companion’ is set to close next month. Thecooking supply shop on Atlantic Avenue recently posted a letter to customers that announced it would be closing in mid-February after 20 years of service. “We are proud to have contributed to the vibrancy and growth of the neighborhood and we are now ready for another challenge,” the owners wrote.(via Pardon Me For Asking)

EAGLE SPORTS: Anthony Beauvillier has certainly turned over a new leaf in the New Year. If only the rest of the New York Islanders could say the same. Beauvillier continued his January scoring spree Monday night in Glendale, Arizona, but the Islanders resumed their ongoing malaise with a 3-2 overtime loss to the league-worst Coyotes. “It’s disappointing to leave here with one point,” admitted Beauvillier. “We picked it up in the second and third [periods], we played a strong game,” he added. “But couldn’t capitalize on the chances we had. I thought we adjusted really well in that game.” (via Brooklyn Eagle)
