INDONESIA — Volcano Spews Smoke: Mount Agung spews smoke at sunrise in Kintamani on Wednesday. Indonesia’s disaster mitigation agency said the volcano remains at its highest alert level but most of Bali is safe for tourists.

ROMANIA — King Dies: Honor guard soldiers carry the coffin of the late Romanian King Michael I at the Henri Coanda airport, outside Bucharest, on Wednesday. Former King Michael, who ruled Romania twice and was forced to abdicate by the communists in 1947, died on Dec. 5 in Switzerland at age 96.

ALABAMA — Moore Rides Horse to Polls: U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore rides a horse to vote on Tuesday in Gallant. Alabama voters decided between Moore, former chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court and Democrat Doug Jones. Moore lost the election.

BRAZIL — Inmates Decorate for the Holidays: Cellmates wearing Santa hats sit on their bunks during the 8th annual Christmas event at the Nelson Hungria Prison in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday. Inmates who are serving time for offenses from burglary to homicide spent weeks decking out the cellblocks with the holiday decorations they created. The inmates used materials they had access to behind bars such as plastic bottles, paper, ground-up Styrofoam and aluminum trays.
