When St. Anselm Catholic Academy needed money to help fund school programs, students stepped up, literally.

Dozens of students took part in a recent Walk 4 Education, a walk-a-thon designed to raise money for various school programs.

Students and teachers started off at St. Anselm Catholic Academy, located at 365 83rd St. in Bay Ridge, and made their way to the ball fields in Shore Road Park and 79th Street. The students also walked around the ball field a few times.

The younger kids didn’t go all the way to Shore Road Park, but they did make it to Colonial Road and 82nd Street, a few blocks from the school.

Prior to the walk-a-thon, students collected pledges from donors who promised to pay up if the kids completed the route.

In the past, the funds raised at the event have been used to supplement funding for various school programs, including the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) courses and the technology lab.

John Quaglione, chairman of the school’s Board of Directors, said the Walk 4 Education is a great unifying force for the school.

“As the St. Anselm Catholic Academy board chair, I am so proud of all the students, teachers and parents who helped make the annual Walk 4 Education a successful fundraising event.  It is important that we involve the students in raising money to be used to improve our school. We continue to excel in our academics and in our teaching of faith and service, and fundraising is instrumental in helping us achieve our mission,” Quaglione told the Brooklyn Eagle via email.
