Every year in late autumn, the Swiss Air Force pilots show off their skills in the Swiss Alps above Axalp Ebenfluh. Spectators marvel at the unique aviation display performed at the highest air force firing range in Europe.

JAPAN — Ash Fills the Air: Volcanic smoke rises from the Shinmoedake volcano after its eruption in the border of Kagoshima and Miyazaki prefectures on Thursday. The volcano erupted for the first time in six years and spread ash in nearby cities and towns.

ENGLAND – Origami: Satchie Noro performs a work entitled ‘Origami,’ which will open the London’s Dance Umbrella festival, at a site next to the landmark four tower Battersea Power Station in London, Wednesday. The former Battersea Power station is being refurbished in to an apartment complex. The dance festival runs from Oct. 11 to 28, in various locations around London. 

CALIFORNIA – Burned Homes: Burned out homes are seen in the Coffey Park area Wednesday in Santa Rosa, Calif. Wildfires whipped by powerful winds swept through Northern California sending residents on a headlong flight to safety through smoke and flames as homes burned.
