PHILIPPINES — Navy Ship Docks: A crew member of the Royal Australian Navy HMAS Adelaide, an amphibious assault ship and landing helicopter dock, throws a line as it docks in the South Harbor for a five-day port call on Tuesday in Manila. The visit of the HMAS Adelaide, along with the HMAS Darwin, was aimed at strengthening relations between the two navies, as well as providing maritime security and stability in the region.

A nationwide strike by French public sector workers on Tuesday was affecting schools, hospitals and public services and causing disruptions in domestic air traffic.

An onslaught of wildfires across a wide swath of Northern California broke out almost simultaneously then grew exponentially, swallowing up properties from wineries to trailer parks and tearing through both tiny rural towns and urban subdivisions. 

FRANCE – World Cup Qualifying Match: France’s goalkeeper Hugo Lloris jumps the World Cup Group, a qualifying soccer match between France and Belarus at the Stade de France stadium in Saint-Denis, outside Paris, Tuesday. France won 2-1 to qualify for the 2018 soccer World Cup. 

BRAZIL – Women Cradle Babies in the Slums:  Women cradle their babies as they walk past a soldier during an operation at the Rocinha slum, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Tuesday. More than 1,000 Brazilian police and soldiers are searching Rio’s largest slum for weapons and ammunition amid a crackdown on drug gangs. In recent weeks, a series of intense shootouts led Brazilian authorities to ask the military for help patrolling the perimeter of Rocinha.
