~A LAST LOOK AT THE WITNESSES’ WATCHTOWER SIGN: Oh, that fine red glow. When it’s gone, we will miss it so. The red Watchtower sign’s days are numbered. The company Jared Kushner headed until he stepped aside to serve as a senior adviser to his father-in-law, President Donald Trump, plans to remove the sign from the former headquarters of the Jehovah’s Witnesses inBrooklyn Heights. Because the Watchtower sign could be dismantled at any moment, we’ve snapped some photos to serve as keepsakes. Night and day, in foul weather and fair, the sign is so fine. ~BROOKLYN JUDGE NOT HAPPY WITH DACA DEADLINE: Since PresidentTrump’s decision to wind down DACA, hundreds of thousands of recipients have been unsure of their status with an Oct. 5 renewal deadline approaching and the federal government not willing to change it. Brooklyn Federal JudgeNicholas Garaufis has been adamantly against the decision to keep the deadline in place. “It’s unacceptable to me, quite frankly, as a human being and as an American. I’m just glad I was born in Paterson, N.J., and not Mexico City,” Garaufis said. Justice Department lawyer Brett Shumate said the decision to keep the deadline was “not made lightly.” Garaufis said the roughly 800,000 DACA recipients are “making the country stronger.” (via the Daily News)
~A TALE OF TWO PARKS: Location, location, location. Debbie Goodstein-Rosenfeld and Tommy Rosenfeld’s townhouse is situated at the edge of one of Brooklyn’s iconic parks. Their recently purchased condo is situated at the edge of Brooklyn’s other iconic park. The married couple recently paid $10,248,024 for an apartment at Pierhouse, the new development in Brooklyn Bridge Park. The townhouse they own is at 18 Prospect Park West in the Park Slope Historic District. The neo-Italian Renaissance limestone house, which was designed by famous late 19th-century architect Montrose Morris, faces Prospect Park. They bought it for $3.75 million in 2004, Finance Department records show. Goodstein-Rosenfeld is a film director, writer and producer. Her 2012 period drama “Mighty Fine” starred Chazz Palminteri and Andie MacDowell. (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
~STARRET CITY SALE DEBACLE IN THE LIMELIGHT: The largest federally subsidized housing development in the country may be based far out in Eastern Brooklyn, but contract talk of its sale is in the spotlight. Starrett City, placed between Canarsie and East New York, almost went market rate and sold with a $1.3 billion price tag, but the complex’s affordable status brought the price down drastically. The 5,881-unit development is part of the Mitchell-Lama program, a system that offers financial incentives to build affordable housing. When David Bistricer made the billion-dollar bid in 2007, government officials blocked it. “When they tried to sell it to us, the owners said they planned to take it out of the Mitchell-Lama program and officials were very upset,” Bistricer said. “At the time, the sellers weren’t considering affordability in order to achieve that price.” This year, Rockpoint Group and Brooksville Company took a stab at the complex and are in contract agreements for a $850 million sale, nearly 35 percent lower than the 2007 offer. As a part owner, PresidentTrump could make about $14 million from the sale. (via The Real Deal)

EAGLE SPORTS: The Nets posed and preened, spun basketballs on their fingers, stood back to back in tough-guy stances and screamed from the rooftop of their HSS Training Center in Sunset Park on Monday morning. None of it added up to much more than the usual promo shots for their television broadcasts in advance of the upcoming 2017-18 season, one Brooklyn hopes will result in the team’s return to relevancy on the NBA landscape. With media day behind them, the Nets shipped off to Annapolis, Maryland on Tuesday, kicking off training camp and trying to get a feel for just how far they can go with eight new players, including key additions D’Angelo Russell, DeMare Carroll and Allen Crabbe, and a handful of returnees.
