A Bay Ridge man was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter over the weekend after fatally striking a 17-year-old bicyclist in Gerritsen Beach.

According to police, Ridge Boulevard resident Thomas Groarke, 24, was under the influence of alcohol when he crossed over a painted median on Gerritsen Avenue and struck 17-year-old Sean Ryan, a Gerritsen Beach resident and recent graduate of Xaverian High School, with his white Honda Accord on Sunday, July 17 at around 8:47 p.m.

The investigation is still ongoing by the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad, however police did release that Ryan was struck at the intersection of Gerritsen and Gotham Avenues and was pronounced dead at the scene after EMS found him unconscious and unresponsive. Groarke was taken into custody with charges pending.
