Valentine’s Day came early for members of the Bay Ridge Center for Older Adults.

On Wednesday, February 10, the organization received boxes upon boxes of hand-made love notes as part of an initiative called DO SOMETHING that invited individuals and organizations to design valentines for groups that participate in the Meals on Wheels program.

The cards were then delivered to participants on Friday, February 12.

“It’s heartwarming,” said Marianne Nicolosi, executive director of the Bay Ridge Center. “These handmade cards are not cheesy; they’re really original and really fun. Receiving them made the day for my entire staff.”

Josephine Beckmann, district manager of Community Board 10, was head over heels for the idea.

“I just think it’s the most precious thing ever,” she said.

Clients of the center’s Pantry Operations Brown Bag Lunch distribution were also given special bags hand-decorated by local Girl Scout Troop 2314.

Since 1976, the Bay Ridge Center has provided services and programs for older adults that promote their well-being, support their independence and encourage their involvement in the Bay Ridge community.
