ON THIS DAY in 1908, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Killed on Brooklyn Bridge.”

The article focused on a trackman who was hit by street cars on the Brooklyn Bridge.

“Stefano Colluico, aged 40 years … who was employed as a trackman on the Brooklyn Rapid Transit lines on the Brooklyn Bridge, was ground under two cars on the south roadway of the bridge…” the Eagle reported.

TODAY IS JOHNNY APPLESEED Day. This holiday is celebrated on the anniversary of John Chapman’s death anniversary. Chapman, known as Johnny Appleseed, planted orchards and was known as a great medicine man by the Indians. He died on this day in 1845.
