A parked car suddenly began spewing smoke and burst into flames, sending its inhabitants scrambling out onto the sidewalk at State Street and Flatbush Avenue this morning, said witnesses.

The fire was reported at 11 a.m. as a smoking car, with smoke coming from under the front hood and carriage. It soon burst into flames, which were put out by 11:25 p.m.  No injuries were reported.

It is unknown what caused the fire, but the car’s owners reportedly saw the engine light on before the smoke appeared.
