Red Hook Summer Ferry service extended through September
Brooklyn is having a “ferry” good time.
On the heels of the news that ferry service to the 69th Street Pier in Bay Ridge/Sunset Park has been extended through January 2014, the city announced that thanks to high ridership levels, the Red Hook Summer Ferry will extend its weekend service past the season, to the end of September.
The free weekend ferry has racked up ridership levels of over 100,000 people, said the NYC Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) in its announcement. NYCEDC President Kyle Kimball credited the ferry service as helping “promote the ongoing recovery of the Brooklyn waterfront following Hurricane Sandy, while also encouraging economic activity in this important commercial corridor. Extending the Red Hook service, as well as the free transfers to the East River Ferry, will stimulate the continued revitalization of this vibrant waterfront neighborhood.”
