A Con Edison researcher from Borough Park, Brooklyn has won a prestigious industry award for his work on a project to make the delivery of electricity safer.
Rashal Mahamud, associate engineer in Distribution Engineering, received the Technology Transfer Award from the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), a national energy research organization.
Mahamud, who has worked for the company since 2009, worked with two Con Edison colleagues on research into using smartphones and tablets to detect dangerous “stray” voltage on the streets. The faster a utility finds stray voltage, the faster crews can make repairs, ensuring public safety.
