The Brooklyn Bar Association carried off one of its smoothest annual dinners last week thanks to the organizational skills of President-elect Andy Fallek, BBA Executive Director Avery Okin and a lot of tradition that provides a template of sorts to the structure of this memorable event which has gone highlighted the Kings Bar year all the way back to 1872.

They were aided substantially by President Domenick Napoletano, who chaired the gala last year.

Held at the Brooklyn Marriott – “Why call it the New York Marriott?” asked former Borough President Howard Golden – the dinner packed the really big room with a distinguished dais that ran the length of the entire place!

The speeches, often a topic of later debate, were according to Past President Steve Cohn, “Just fine, they really brought out the best in our bar and in Brooklyn”. Following a 90-minute-plus cocktail reception, most everyone was in the mood to hear, for instance, former Justice Joseph Bruno give his delightfully personal presentation speech on behalf of Appellate Term Presiding Justice Michael Pesce.

Hardly anyone knows Presiding Justice Michael Pesce better than he does, so it was appropriate for the now New York City Emergency Preparedness Commissioner Joseph Bruno to tell how, many years earlier, he enlisted his very close friend in a ‘reform’ political cause in Carroll Gardens–Cobble Hill.
