Much needed monetary contribution

Every dollar counts towards trying to get affected communities back on their feet after Super Storm Sandy, which is why Investors Bank, which recently acquired Marathon Bank, donated $2,500 to the new Third Avenue Merchants Sandy Relief Fund to be split among efforts being conducted by -the Pour House and Yellow Hook Grille, benefitting areas in Breezy Point and Staten Island.

“Because of the devastation, people are suffering, they have nothing; an executive decision (was made) to contribute,” said Marathon Bank Senior Vice President Zoe Koutsoupakis. “How much pain; many of our customers and employers were affected.”

“We are getting it to the hands of the actual people,” said Jason McDermott of The Pour House. “More supplies are dispersed evenly; our focus is not on one area.”

When asked about the conditions in New Dorp Beach (one of the areas they have visited), he added, “[There is] sand everywhere; houses flipped over; [it looks] exactly from a war movie.”

McDermott, Jimmy Whiffin and Ean Evers have been out there every day, bringing supplies and saying that the people who are recipients of the clothing, food, toiletry and tools are very grateful. “It’s overwhelming for us, too,” he added.

“[This donation] will just help us to continue doing what we’re doing,” McDermott exclaimed; that right now consists of spending from four to 16 hours a day in the midst of the recovery efforts, going to all affected areas. “Until everything settles [we will be there],” concluded McDermott.

Donations can also be made to “Viking Love NYC,” a non-profit charity collecting much-needed items, at the Pour House, at 7901 Third Avenue in Bay Ridge.

The bank is also hosting a food and clothes drive at every branch in New York City, so feel free to stop by and take part in this ongoing campaign.
