Storobin picks up Independence Party support for council bid
Former state senator David Storobin, seeking to make the switch from Albany to City Hall, has been endorsed by the Independence Party in his bid for a City Council seat. Storobin, who is running in the 48th Council District in Sheepshead Bay, has already won the support of the Republican and Conservative parties and will appear on three ballot lines in the November election.
Storobin, a lawyer, is seeking to succeed Democratic Councilman Michael Nelson who is term limited and cannot run for re-election. The council district also includes the neighborhoods of Manhattan Beach, Brighton Beach, and Midwood.
Storobin won a special election in March of 2012 to fill out the term of disgraced former state senator Carl Kruger, who was convicted of bribery and other charges. But Storobin was a state senator for less than a year. The senate seat was eliminated under re-districting.
