More than 5,000 without electricity; Con Edison asks customers to limit appliance usage

BOROUGHWIDE — ABOUT 5,800 CON EDISON CUSTOMERS IN BROOKLYN AND QUEENS REPORTED ELECTRICAL OUTAGES as of 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning, June 25 following Tuesday’s record-breaking hot weather.
Con Edison asked some customers in several parts of Brooklyn, including the downtown area and surrounding neighborhoods, the waterfront neighborhoods from Carroll Gardens to Fort Hamilton, and northern Brooklyn (Bushwick to Greenpoint) to conserve energy while company crews repair equipment.
The energy company on Tuesday reduced voltage by 8% in some areas to protect equipment and maintain service as crews make repairs. The company also asks that customers refrain from charging electric vehicles until repairs are made.
Con Edison recorded a temperature of 107 degrees on Tuesday in one area of Brooklyn.
