Brownsville celebrates ‘Brownsville Is’ installation

BROWNSVILLE — AN ART PIECE created with community input is brightening up a local public plaza – literally.
The “Brownsville Is” installation features resident-chosen messages like “Brownsville is home” and “Brownsville is culture” on illuminated green poles that suspend strings of lights above Zion Triangle, according to News 12.
Organized by the Pitkin Avenue Business Improvement District, the project aims to generate community pride and to make evening events more attractive; local businesses say they’ve seen increased foot traffic. The triangle regularly hosts events like farmers’ markets and writing clubs.
“I love it, because now that we have the lights, we can have functions in the evening […] I always come to the farmers’ market. I get my zucchini, I’m looking for some honey, so I can make my little fruit bars,” resident since 1945 Violet Young enthused to News 12.
