Glenn Mohr Chorale, which once sang for the Pope, brings Passion play to Brooklyn church

PARK SLOPE — THE ACCLAIMED GLENN MOHR CHORALE, which began with an aspiration and a blessing from Pope John Paul II in 1989, will bring its Passion play, “It is Finished,” to Saint Saviour Church in Park Slope this Sunday.
Mohr, a Brooklyn organist and choral director who found himself dedicating himself more to faith-centered music and less to his rock bands (according to last.fm,) has built an ensemble that blends music, theater and dance into original productions. The ensemble focuses on ministering to its audiences rather than simply performing, and tours the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens each season giving performances.
The current Lenten Passion play, “It is Finished,” invites congregations to see Christ through the eyes of Pontius Pilate, Judas, Veronica, the Good Thief on the cross and others, focusing on the life-changing encounters they have. The March 30 Passion play at Saint Saviour, at 8th Avenue and 6th Street, begins at 3 p.m.
When Glenn Mohr first met the pope before the chorale’s performance and introduced himself as a church organist, John Paul II (who has since been canonized as a saint,) responded, “Ah, Brooklyn – I love Brooklyn!”
